Com isso surge a necessidade de ferramentas adequadas, como algoritmos que lidam com dados intervalares. Apresentamos neste trabalho as principais defini\u00e7\u00f5es da Aritm\u00e9tica Intervalar que ser\u00e3o utilizadas para se trabalhar com Redes Neurais Intervalares. Definimos a dist\u00e2ncia para elementos provenientes de produtos cartesianos entre intervalos, utilizando a dist\u00e2ncia de Moore, e mostramos que a dist\u00e2ncia definida tamb\u00e9m \u00e9 uma m\u00e9trica. Considerando os estudos feitos a respeito dos Mapas Auto-Organiz\u00e1veis de Kohonen, fizemos uma extens\u00e3o para o caso intervalar e propomos uma vers\u00e3o intervalar para o algoritmo Self-Organizing Map com as devidas adapta\u00e7\u00f5es para que as opera\u00e7\u00f5es intervalares envolvidas sejam bem definidas. Para concluir, aplicamos o algoritmo a um exemplo num\u00e9rico, exibindo o processo alg\u00e9brico da primeira itera\u00e7\u00e3o da rede para formar os aglomerados do mapa de caracter\u00edsticas.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Palavras-chave:<\/strong> Aritm\u00e9tica;
